The Crusades were a bunch of "holy wars" fought by Catholic Europeans during the Middle Ages in order to "reclaim the holy land" of Jeresalem, which had been captured by a Muslim empire. They were fought over a period of 200 years, with the first one occuring from the late 1000s to the early 1100s.
