This is primarily due to the vast differences in climate and ecology. Depending upon the food sources, the seasons and the various challenges to daily life, different skills and traditions were valued. For instance, while in the temperate forest of the eastern part of the continent (what is now New England and the East Coast of the United States), there were plentiful deer, turkeys, fish and other game animals to hunt, so the rites of passage and skills developed around training young men to hunt these animals. This included skills with tracking, stealth and the bow and arrow. In contrast, in the far western north of the continent (what is now Alaska and western Canada), food had to be carefully gathered during the fleeting summer months and saved and the primary source of protein was the large mammals of the ocean - whale, seal, etc. Therefore, the skills and traditions valued here were those related to hunting the large ocean animals - crafting a water-tight boat, the harpoon or javelin, sailing, navigation, etc.

Arguing for the acquittal of his client from the charge of murdering the client's wife, the attorney reasoned that since neither
iogann1982 [59]

Answer: C In a 100-meter race, two of Amy's co-participants won Silver and Bronze and she performed exceedingly well; it follows that Amy won Gold.

Explanation:

There is a flaw in the evidence presented by the lawyer, several flaws actually:

  • The client could have been the culprit and left the main door and garage open as an alibi.
  • There is no mention of there being an altercation with a thief that cost the wife her life.
  • There is no mention of things being stolen to prove that it was a thief.

The attorney used one logic and deduced a flawed conclusion from it so the option that is similar has to do the same as the above.

Option A is not applicable here as blame was taken by the perpetrator.

Option B is not flawed as one would be expected to be late in such circumstances.

Option C has a flaw because performing exceedingly well is relative. Amy could simply be performing exceedingly well in relation to past races. Amy's co-participants could have performed even better which is why they won medals and while Amy performed exceedingly well by her standards, it was not enough to win a medal.

Option D has no flaw. It is a logical deduction and argument just like option E.

According to jane jacobs, what circumstance would be most "safe" for city dwellers?
kenny6666 [7]

According to Jane Jacobs, the circumstance that would be most safe for city dwellers will be a busy street with many shoppers, workers, and sightseers walking around.

According to Jane Jacobs, a city that is busy is considered to be the safest for city dwellers.

When the city is busy, people are present in shops, roads, and other places. In this case, there will be less chance for misfortune to happen because an attacker will fear the people that are present around. Hence, when the city is busy and people are either going to work, are present in shops, are working etc, there will be fewer chances of an attack and the city will be safe during this time.
