Typically, slaves would travel from different countries on boats known as "slave ships." The quality of these ships were extremely poor, because the slaves were all crammed inside the boat. Many of the slaves would die on voyages to different countries.

What are three examples of cultural diffusion in east Asia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia (one for each region). What condition
Rom4ik [11]

South Asia:

A clear example is India's languages. In India, English is spoken, although it is a Saxon language from a completely different part of the world, as in, from a different continent, a different culture and has different roots. The colonization of India was what caused this and many other things to be assimilated by Indians and, most of the times, those things were imposed.

At least, Speaking English was eventually helpful to Indians and assimilating part of the British culture helped, even though just a little, the country to be a little better developed.

East Asia:

The most common cultural diffusion in East Asia is how the Ideograms used by the Chinese are used also in other countries. In Japan, they have its own name, Kanji, but they serve mostly the same purpose. Koreans have also used those same characters for a long time. This all happened, most likely, because of China's influence on other cultures and how they were, in a way, originated in it. The Chinese system was the first in the region to be created and therefore the only one used for a long time.

Eventually, for having a very complicated way of writing things, the solution that the Koreans came out was to create a simpler new way of writing for the common folk to be able to read. Nowadays, the Koreans have their own characters and they are much more practical and easier than the Chinese one.

Southeast Asia:

The countries in southeast Asia have a closely interrelated history and it works the same way for their culture, which was shaped by the passage of many other cultures and religions that came with old trade routes. Being between the economic demands of the Chinese and Roman Empires, countries like of Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, and Malaysia ended up being frequently, and more and more exposed to new cultures from the west and the east, which eventually had a significant effect on their artistic traditions.

What are key continuities economically during the haitian revolution?
Damm [24]
Haiti was a brutal, terrifying place for most slaves.
Slavery was particularly harsh in Haiti, much harsher than in the USA. There were laws which defined what a slave owner could, and couldn't do to their slaves, but these were routinely ignored.
There are at least two documented cases of runaway slaves being captured, tied over a log, a funnel put up their backside, gunpowder poured in and then a fuse lit - all for the benefit of the other slaves - they were killed by being blown apart as a warning to the others.

The work was hard, life expectancy low and wives and children were routinely sold away from their husbands. The French even codified the degrees of "African-ness", down to 1 part per 128, that's someone's great-great-great-great-great-great grand parents, and what jobs and responsibilities they could have.

Then there were the maroons - escaped slaves who lived in the jungles and mountains - they occasionally raided plantations and even the towns, killing whites and taking slaves away with them. The Maroons became like the bogeyman to blacks and whites alike.

Then along comes the French Revolution, with it's promise of "Liberty, Fraternity and Equality", obviously the slaves believed that this meant them as well: it didn't.

The intellectual cause of the Haitian Revolution was the philosophies of the Enlightenment - specifically the same intellectual base as the French Revolution. Basically the cry "libertie egalitie fraternitie" does not qualify which kind of person should be free - so ALL men were considered brothers. This thought pervaded Haitian mulatto and freed slave society, and seemed to offer a genuine equality and freedom for all on the island.
The other intellectual driving force of the revolution is the individual intellect of those leaders who were able to motivate, to organise and to conduct military campaigns with skill and flair - the leaders, Christopher, Brenda and, of course, Toussaint L'Ouverture.

lions [1.4K]
Enlightened despots were kings and queens who tried to incorporate the ideas of the Enlightenment into their rule, while keeping their traditional powers. Enlightened despots such as Frederick II of Prussia and Maria Theresa of Austria tried to improve areas such as farming, industry, and education. They were also patrons of the arts and began many humanitarian reforms, like abolishing the use of torture. Maria Theresa's son, Joseph II, was considered the most radical of the enlightened despots because of the extreme changes he made when he came to power in 1780. (Image: Courtesy of Wikipedia) Joseph II abolished serfdom, made taxes equal for both nobles and peasants, and granted freedom of the press to writers. He also confiscated Catholic Church property and used the money to build hospitals. His actions ultimately failed because he angered too many people. Nobles rebelled against him and he was forced to cancel many of these changes.
