<u>Answer:</u>

<em><u>about 9 years</u></em>

<em><u /></em>

<u>Explanation:</u>

To solve this problem we will use what is known as 'The Rule Of 72.' This particular rule is what the Mathematical World considers a 'short cut.' That's because it is an efficient way to calculate how long it takes money to double, base solely on the interest rate. However, it is important to remember that this rule only provides an estimate, and not an exact amount of years.

The Rule Of 72 is as follows:

\displaystyle\frac{72}{[interest][rate]}   =  time it takes for investment to double

<em>*please note that I separated the word 'interest' and 'rate' using brackets. however, please ignore them. as I only used the brackets to separate the words since the equation option does not allow space between letters.</em>

Now that you understand the Rule Of 72, let's use it to solve the given problem.

<em>Corbin’s parents want to save $50,000 for his college education and already have $25,000. About how long would it take them to double their current savings if they can earn an 8% interest rate?</em>

Although the first sentence in the problem gives us information of the parents goal and their current amount saved, this information will not be useful to us. As the Rule Of 72 goes, we only need to know the interest rate to solve.

Looking at the second sentence it states the interest rate is: 8%

Now substitute the interest rate in the Rule Of 72.

\displaystyle\frac{72}{[interest][rate]} ⟶ \displaystyle\frac{72}{8}

The last step is to simplify (or divide).

\displaystyle\frac{72}{8} = 9

So, according the Rule Of 72, it will only take <u><em>about 9 years</em></u> to double their current savings.

Very nice to have an accompanied image!Illumination is proportional to the intensity of the source, inversely proportional to the distance squared, and to the sine of angle alpha.so that we can writeI(h)=K*sin(alpha)/s^2 ................(0)where K is a constant proportional to the light source, and a function of other factors.
Also, radius of the table is 4'/2=2', therefore, using Pythagoras theorem,s^2=h^2+2^2 ...........(1), and consequently,sin(alpha)=h/s=h/sqrt(h^2+2^2)..............(2)
Substitute (1) and (2) in (0), we can writeI(h)=K*(h/sqrt(h^2+4))/(h^2+4)=Kh/(h^2+4)^(3/2)
To get a maximum value of I, we equate the derivative of I (wrt alpha) to 0, orI'(h)=0or, after a few algebraic manipulations, I'(h)=K/(h^2+4)^(3/2)-(3*h^2*K)/(h^2+4)^(5/2)=K*sqrt(h^2+4)(2h^2-4)/(h^2+4)^3We see that I'(h)=0 if 2h^2-4=0, giving h=sqrt(4/2)=sqrt(2) feet above the table.
We know that I(h) is a minimum if h=0 (flat on the table) or h=infinity (very, very far away), so instinctively h=sqrt(2) must be a maximum.Mathematically, we can derive I'(h) to get I"(h) and check that I"(sqrt(2)) is negative (for a maximum).  If you wish, you could go ahead and find that I"(h)=(sqrt(h^2+4)*(6*h^3-36*h))/(h^2+4)^4, and find that the numerator equals -83.1K which is negative (denominator is always positive).
An alternative to showing that it is a maximum is to check the value of I(h) in the vicinity of h=sqrt(2), say I(sqrt(2) +/- 0.01)we findI(sqrt(2)-0.01)=0.0962218KI(sqrt(2))     =0.0962250K   (maximum)I(sqrt(2)+0.01)=0.0962218KIt is not mathematically rigorous, but it is reassuring, without all the tedious work.

When 50 mL of water is added, the graduated cylinder has a mass of 180 g. If a rook is added to the graduated cylinder, the wate
Bezzdna [24]

Answer:

2.25 (or \frac{9}{4}) g/mL

<u>Skills needed: Density</u>

Step-by-step explanation:

1) Briefly, let's cover what density is:

- It is \frac{mass}{volume}

- Measures the mass per unit of volume

- In this situation the formula for density is: \frac{m_f-m_i}{v_f-v_i}

---> m_f is the final mass

---> m_i is the initial mass

---> v_f is the final volume

---> v_i is the initial volume

2) In this case, we start out with a mass of 180 grams as stated in the problem, and also 50 mL of water initially.

This means that:

- m_i is 180 g

- v_i is 50 mL

3) Also, we end up with 270 g in mass, and 90 mL of water finally.

- m_f is 270g

- v_f is 90 mL

4) We can find density by substitute given the values above:

\frac{270-180}{90-50} = \frac{90}{40} = \frac{9}{4} \text{ or } 2.25

5) Our answer is 2.25 g/mL (since mass is grams (g), and volume is milliliters (mL) in the problem above).
