One of the central ideas of the text is that Scientists are still studying the Earth as their knowledge of it is limited and they hope to learn more about it so that they may be able to predict changes to the Earth in future.

They study the Earth through the use of satellites that focus on the Earth from outta space, taking pictures of our planet's various parts and regions and observing it's various components such as the sky, the land and the oceans as well as observing its movements as well.
