List three ways a rectangle and a square are alike

English

They are both quadrilaterals

With that fact we can come up with similarities:

Both have 2 pairs of parallel lines

Both have 4 right angles (Angles that measure 90°)

Both have 4 sides

Perimeters can be computed by adding all the sides.

Even if they are both quadrilaterals, they are not the same. A square has 4 equal sides. A rectangle is not a square, but a square is considered to be a special rectangle.

what is the central idea of this paragraph? 1. the author's parents gave the same responses to questions about the Dominican Rep
olchik [2.2K]

This question is incomplete because the paragraph is missing; here is the missing part of the question:

"A Genetics of Justice”

In December 1960, four months after our arrival, Time magazine reported the murder of the three Mirabal sisters, who along with their husbands had started the national underground Dominican Republic. My parents confiscated the magazine. To our many questions about what was going on, my mother always had the ready answer, "En boca cerrada no entran moscas.” No flies fly into a closed mouth. Later, I found out that this very saying had been scratched on the lintel of the entrance of the SIM's torture center at La Cuarenta.

Answer: 2. The author's parents were afraid to discuss murders or event in the Dominican Republic

Explanation:

In the excerpt from "A genetics to Justice," the narrator explains her parents avoided speaking about the situation in the Dominican Republic; this can be seen in "I knew very little about what was actually going on in the Dominican Republic". Additionally, the general attitude of her parents including the fact they spoke "in hushed voices" about the topic, and " confiscated the magazine" about the murders of some Dominicans show the parents are afraid to discuss any situation to this country. This idea is also explained in "No flies fly into a closed mouth", which shows the parents are afraid something bad will happen to them if they speak about this topic. Thus, the central idea is expressed by option 2.

We can actually deduce here that the purpose of each statement from George Washington's Farewell Address is given as:

 • But that jealousy to be useful must be impartial; else it becomes the instrument of the very influence to be avoided, instead of a defense against it - to warn that the U.S. must guard itself against all foreign interference.

 • If we remain one people under an efficient government, the period is not far off when we may defy material injury from external annoyance; - to predict that the U.S. is uniquely situated to resist foreign invasions.

 • Real patriots who may resist the intrigues of the favorite are liable to become suspected and odious - to remind that the best U.S. citizen will reject popular foreign influences regardless of personal cost.

Who is George Washington?

George Washington was known to be the first president of the United States of America. He was also known to be a Founding Father and an American military officer. He served as the first president of U.S.A from 1789 to 1797.

Below are the parts that complete the question:

to advise that the U.S. favor only those foreign powers that show themselves friendly toward our best interests

to predict that the U.S. is uniquely situated to resist foreign invasions

to suggest that the U.S. should develop commercial ties to foreign powers rather than political ties

to remind that the best U.S. citizen will reject popular foreign influences regardless of personal cost

to warn that the U.S. must guard itself against all foreign interference

The statements are:

But that jealousy to be useful must be impartial; else it becomes the instrument of the very influence to be avoided, instead of a defense against it.

If we remain one people under an efficient government, the period is not far off when we may defy material injury from external annoyance;

Real patriots who may resist the intrigues of the favorite are liable to become suspected and odious,

Thus, we see that the purpose of each statement from George Washington's Farewell Address has been matched to the correct statement.
