The Spanish Novel was written by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. It was first published in 1605 followed by a second publication in 1615. Its sources were novels like Amadis de Gaula, Tirant lo Blanch, and The GoldenAss. Poems like Orlando furioso and Orlando Innamoroto were also used as references in writing the novel.
Don Quixote was one of the founding work of modern Western literature and one of the earliest canonical novel that it was cited by Bokklubben World Library collection as authors' choice for the Best Literary Work Ever Written.
