But let's look at these two cases.

First we have the change at the beginning, where for her birthday Clary decides to go to a totally different club in her style. She dresses differently and listens to different music than she is used to. In fact in this club all her story begins. It also shows us that Clary is actually a shy person so we can see the first change here.

In the other quote we can see a brave Clary who responds with a "My name is not‘ little girl, ’. Here we notice how her character has grown a lot and has stopped being that shy and cowardly little girl.
