Answer:

This essay does not have a stated thesis. What is Diaz's main idea? Write a sentence that could serve as a thesis statement. Where in the essay could this sentence be added? Should such a sentence be added? Why or why not? I believe Diaz's main idea is, be careful who you trust. I believe the thesis statement should be “It's hard to trust someone”. This should be added in the introduction. It is important that this is added because a thesis is the center of an essay. It should also be added because every paragraph in the body would support this statement.

Why do you think Mark Twain uses a young boy as the main character and narrator of the novel? Your response should
kolezko [41]

I think that Mark Twain uses a young boy as the main character and narrator of the novel as it shows their curiosity about the world around them and their mischievous ideas. This makes the novel more interesting as it highlights acts that only children do that no adults would do so that we can understand how it is like being a child. In The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, when he dirtied his clothes in a fight, he was made to whitewash the fence. However, instead of doing it himself, he took advantage of his friend, Ben, and tricked him into painting the fence for him by pretending how much fun it was. This shows the witty mind of Tom Sawyer which we can all relate to when we were younger. In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Huck was trying to escape from his drunk father with a runaway slave, Jim. This shows that sometimes, just because we are young, does not mean that we cannot do great things. Like Huck, he escaped from his father and sailed down the Mississippi river when he was just a teenager, proving that being young does not limit what you can do. In conclusion, I think Mark Twain used a young boy for main character of his novels to help us to relate to the mischief of what they can be up to and that age does not matter if you want to do great things.

Read this excerpt from "Herd about the Flu."
dangina [55]

Answer:

D. These are headings that give titles to the topics being discussed in the paragraphs after them.

Explanation:

Step 1.) Find the answers that you know can not be right or the ones that do not make sense, like option C. These are conclusions that summarize all of the information in the paragraphs before them. The paragraph before the underlined text, in the passage, talks about you going to school and getting the Flu and driving to the doctors. This does not explain the reason why the pharmacy is out of flu shots. Also you can eliminate option B. These are summary points so that the reader could just read these lines and understand the passage. The underlined text does not explain the paragraph before it or after it. So now you have eliminated half of the answer choices.

Step 2.) Read the passage over again, and look closely at the questions you have left. We now have options A. These are answers to topic questions, and the paragraphs after them explain the answers and D. These are headings that give titles to the topics being discussed in the paragraphs after them left. Now compare the 2 answer choices choice A. says that the underlined text are answers to topic questions, But the underlined text is a question not an answer and the paragraph after it is not explaining an answer it is the answer to the underlined question. So thus it must be answer D., but just to make sure we must look at it too. Choice D. says that the underlined text is a heading for the paragraph and the topics being discussed after it. The underlined text is asking a question and the paragraph after it is answering it so thus means that the answer is D.

Step 3.) Now that you have the answer you can go and answer your question, or if you already did then you can use these steps later on another question you are having trouble answering.

I hope this helps =3
