congress to fund the Corps of Discovery which was headed by U.S Army Captain
Meriwether Lewis, together with his close friend, second lieutenant William Clark. Jefferson heard a lot about William Clark, so
when he knew Lewis recruited Clark to formed of Corps of Discovery, the Lewis
and Clark Expedition then formed.</span>
Second Lieutenant William Clark was chosen because he was a friend of Captain Meriwether Lewis and because he was an experienced explorer, since he was firmly aware of different species of flora and fauna, as well as rock formations.
Lewis was directly in charge of the expedition, whose name was The Discovery Corps. President Jefferson had let him know the purpose of the trip, that consisted in the exploration of the Missouri River through a letter. Lewis accepted the trip and chose his friend Clark, who despite not having the same military rank of him, shared leadership in the crew.
