The first type of listening is Passively. Passive listening occurs when someone is hearing music and may not even realize it. For example: A student is doing homework and has music playing. He is passively listening because his focus is on his homework, not the music.  

The second type of listening is Responsively. Responsive listening typically occurs when you hear a jingle you know. You begin tapping your foot, not realizing. This is responsive listening.

The third type of listening is Actively. Active listening occurs when your full focus is on the music. For example: A student had a long, difficult day at school. Before bed, they pop in some earbuds, and play some music. their full focus is on the music.
