The poet, in the poem, Directive, by Robert Frost, asks the traveller to go back from the present confused times to a time in the past, which was simple and which has been blurred or broken like 'the graveyard marble sculpture by bad weather'.Robert Frost was born in San Francisco on March 26, 1874. He attended Harvard and Dartmouth University, but he never completed his education at these institutions. He married Elinor and had six children, two of which suffers from mental illnesses and died at an early age. Living in the rural region of New Hampshire, Frost experienced the farm life that influences his writing. Furthermore, Frost lived in England, the source for many inspirations of his settings, until the start of World War I. At the age of 86, Frost did on January 29, 1963 due to complications during a surgery. The poem "Directive" was published in 1946, a period of chaos within the World Wars.
