Danny and Sam had had a fight, so they were actually angry: emotions should have had to be controlled, first. Once they had got quiet, they could have listened to each other, in this way they could have expressed their intentions in the  game of football. This would have made the problem crop up ( Sam's jealousy; Danny's leadership ; Danny's selfishness, etc). Once the problen had come out, Danny and Sam could have agreed on a solution.
