He did, however, sign the 1830 Indian Removal Act, which resulted in the Trail of Tears. Politics and the public sphere had always piqued Jackson's interest. He had traveled to Nashville on political business, and in 1796, he was admitted to the convention that wrote the Tennessee state constitution.
