Unless he has been left alone - This is a subordinate clause as it needs an independent one to fulfill its meaning and make it correct.

Rover rarely barks or whines - This is an independent clause because it can stand on its own and convey meaning without help from other clauses.

In a compare/contrast essay, you can choose to use a block method or go point by point. In a block method, you would have a whole section on your first thing and then a whole section on your second thing. In these sections, the differences and similarities would be evident. Or, you could go point by point and show how each thing is similar/different on each specific issue. </span>

Based on this passage, I believe that the description which best characterizes Hector is the last option - he is an epic hero because he is a brave leader.
You can see in the excerpt that once he started walking around his men, they all stopped talking and calmed down, as if they admired him a lot, which was the truth. He was a good leader and his men loved him, and were devastated when he was killed in the end.
