<span>it symbolizes winning a battle; who is still in control of the land which they fought on, and the territory belongs for the US after their rival forces (japan or ital in WWII)tried to take over the land. No matter how many of the US soldiers die, the flag still remains waving, which shows the love for their country</span>

Answer: As it was stated before, art can express many things in culture. In this case I believe that this image of an American flag being placed at Iwo Jima after the most infamous battle in the Pacific during WWII represents the coming of peace. It shows hope towards the end of the battle.
