Answer:

Grendel is terrorizing Heorot because he is jealous of peoples’ happiness.

Explanation:

He is consumed by jealousy and he decides to attack Heorot. The literal reason for attacking him is because he hears songs of the king that are singing about the world and everyone seem very happy and enjoying. These songs are waking up his demonic nature.
