1. Here the question is either

a: f(x-1)=- \frac{3}{4}x+2, what is f(x)?
or
b) f(1-x)=- \frac{3}{4}x+2, what is f(x)?

Case a: f(x-1)=- \frac{3}{4}x+2, what is f(x)?

substitute x with x+1 in both sides. The reason is to get rid of 1 in the f() expression:

f((x+1)-1)=- \frac{3}{4}(x+1)+2

f(x+1-1)=- \frac{3}{4}x- \frac{3}{4}+2

f(x)=- \frac{3}{4}x- \frac{3}{4}+ \frac{8}{4}= - \frac{3}{4}x+\frac{5}{4}

b) in case b substitute x with (1-x) in both sides so that we get:
f(1-x)=f(1-(1-x))=f(1-1+x)=f(x)

1/2x^2 + 4x - 1 = 0<br> How to factor it
LenaWriter [7]

Answer:

x + 4 - 3√2 and x + 4 + 3√2

Step-by-step explanation:

When other methods seem to difficult to apply, try using the quadratic formula:

Here a = 1/2, b = 4 and c = -1.

Then the "discriminant" is b^2 - 4ac, or

(4)^2 - 4(1/2)(-1), or 16 + 2 = 18

Then the roots are:

      -4 ± √18, or -4 ± 3√2

and thus the factors are x + 4 - 3√2 and x + 4 + 3√2

x = ---------------------

the equation y equals 1/5x represents a proportional relationship. explain how you can tell the relationship is proportional fro
Allisa [31]
If the equation is in y = k*x form, then we have a direct proportional relationship between x and y. In this case, y = (1/5)*x is in the form y = k*x where k = 1/5. So this equation is proportional. The constant of proportionality is k = 1/5

In terms of a graph, you can tell if it has the following properties:
1) The graph goes through the origin (0,0) which is where the x and y axis cross
2) The graph is a straight line

You should find that graphing y = (1/5)x will satisfy both properties above, so that will visually confirm you have the right answer. The graph is shown in the attached image. The red line represents the graph of the equation. The red line goes through (0,0) and (5,1), which are point A and point B respectively.
