Answer:

Please check explanation

Step-by-step explanation:

Here, we want to describe what is meant by the fact that integers are closed under addition.

When we talk of integers, we mean whole numbers, be it positive or negative. So when we talk of closed, we mean the arithmetic operation in consideration obeys the closure property.

So technically, what we are driving at here is that the addition operation of integers obeys the closure property.

Now, how is this so?

When we say a certain operation is closed or obeys the closure property , what we are trying to say is that, no matter the direction in which we are trying to operate from, whether new place the first number last or first, we are going to end up with the same value as answer.

Let’s have two integers as example; 4 and 5

Using the arithmetic operation of addition between these numbers;

4 + 5 = 5 + 4 = 9

We can see that no matter which number comes first between the 2, we are going to end up with the same 9 value.

Let’s consider a case of subtraction to buttress our point;

We can see that;

5-4 = 1 is not same as 4-5 = -1

So we can see here that the subtraction operation under the integer

umbrella is not closed and thus we can say that it does not obey the closure property.
