What Macbeth did not suspect was that Macduff was the one who could kill him since his mother had died before he left her womb, which turned her into a corpse. Macbeth was full of greed and the idea of being king blinded him. However, before some visions he had where he saw a bloody sword, his reaction was to have remorse and weakness to carry out his plan. Fact he did on the advice and motivations of his wife Lady Macbeth.
