Tom has $10 that he wants to use to buy pens and pencils. However, he does not want to buy more pens than pencils. A pen costs $

3, and a pencil costs $1. Which graph represents this scenario? (Here, x represents the number of pens and y the number of pencils.)

Hello!

We 1st off, know that number of pencils = x

and that the number of pens = y

So now the Solving!:

3x + y = 10
x ≤ y

Draw the line 3x + y = 10 .[it passes by (0,10) and (-10/3,0)

Draw the line y=x [it passes by (0,0), (1,1), (2,2) etc]

Then the solution is the points with integer x and y, that belong to the segment of the line 3x +y = 10 between the x-axis and the line y=x. Those points are (1,7) , (2,4), (3, 1).

Find two consecutive even integers such that the square of the second, decreased by twice the first is 52
Fiesta28 [93]

Let the first integer be x. So, the next even number is x+2

Let's translate the formula: the square of the second is (x+2)^2, twice the first is 2x. So, the equation is

(x+2)^2 - 2x = 52

Expand the square to get

x^2+4x+4-2x = 52 \iff x^2+2x+4 = 52 \iff x^2+2x - 48 = 0

The solutions to this equations are

x = -8,\quad x = 6

So, the possible consecutive even numbers are

-8\text{ and } -6\quad\text{or}\quad 6\text{ and } 8

Ivan had a total of 9 pigs and chickens on his farm. There was a total of 30 legs. How many of each did he have ?
luda_lava [24]

Answer: 6 pigs and 3 chickens

Step-by-step explanation: you know that each pig has 4 legs and each chicken has 2 legs so start out by saying 9 pigs and 0 chickens which is 36 legs then try 8 pigs and 1 chickens and 8 times 4 = 32 + 2 which is 32 which is more than 30 then notice for every chicken there is you subtract 2 from 36

knowing this we can divide 6 by 2 and get 3 the number of chickens

so 6 pigs and 3 chickens

hope this helps mark me brainliest if it helped

Laundry detergent boxes are filled according to an approximately Normal distribution with mean 34.15 ounces and standard deviati
Leno4ka [110]

Using the normal distribution, it is found that there is a 0.0668 = 6.68% probability a randomly selected box has less than the 34 ounces of advertised weight.

<h3>Normal Probability Distribution</h3>

The z-score of a measure X of a normally distributed variable with mean \mu and standard deviation \sigma is given by:

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

  • The z-score measures how many standard deviations the measure is above or below the mean.
  • Looking at the z-score table, the p-value associated with this z-score is found, which is the percentile of X.

The mean and the standard deviation are given, respectively, by:

\mu = 34.15, \sigma = 0.1.

The probability a randomly selected box has less than the 34 ounces of advertised weight is the <u>p-value of Z when X = 34</u>, hence:

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

Z = \frac{34 - 34.15}{0.1}

Z = -1.5

Z = -1.5 has a p-value of 0.0668.

0.0668 = 6.68% probability a randomly selected box has less than the 34 ounces of advertised weight.
