225 serves because you need to set up a proportion. The proportion is 2/5=90/x then solve for x by cross multiplying, which gives you 450=2x. Then divide 450 by 2 which gives you 225. Work shown in the attached picture.

If the pattern continues, how many cups of milk does George need to make 6 batches of muffins? Explain how you found your answer
maks197457 [2]
First of all, you have to find the common difference between the numbers. That will be;
3/4-3/8=1 1/2-1 1/8
In the case of 1 1/2-1 1/8, the two whole numbers will subtract each other(1-1)
That will leave you with 1/2-1/8
3/4-3/8=1/2-1/8
The common denominator in both cases is 8
In 3/4-3/8
Divide 8 by 4 and multiply by 3 which will be 6
Divide 8 by 8 and multiply by 3. That will be 3
So you have; 6-3/8
Which is 3/8
If you do the same to 1/2-1/8, you will still end up with 3/8
Next, to find the fraction required to make 6 batches, you need to add 3/8 to the last term to the last term
1 1/2+3/8
3/2+3/8=12+3/8
15/8. This is the fifth batch. Add 3/8 again to get the sixth batch
15/8+3/8=15+3/8
18/8
Which is 9/4 when divided. The sixth batch is 9/4 or 2 1/4 in mixed fraction
Hope that helped. Have a nice day
