He could be a construction worker, the overalls and boots hint at this. Or a farmer, but farmers would not often bother to wash overalls often. Whereas a construction worker can work with more harmful substances like fiberglass, concrete, ect and would need to bother with washing overalls. This is a tough call but this is my best guess.
