At the end of Guy de Maupassant's "Was it a Dream?" the main character discovers through his dead mistress inscription on her tomb, in reality, in a delusion or a dream, that she was going to cheat on him when she caught a disease in the cold rain and died. In that dream, all the other dead people changed the good inscriptions written by their family with the truth about themselves. We can suppose the author means that at the end of our lives, someone that loves us remembers ourselves as good people, under their loving eyes, despite our many faults; Or in other words, that "love is blind". Then you may agree or not with it.

Answer:

What the author is saying about love in Was it a Dream? is that love is something strange and inexplicable. A person who loves another becomes blind. He only manages to think about the person he loves, he does not conceive of life without the presence of his beloved one and turns to an obsession.

Considering the end of the story, it can be said that the author interprets that the loved ones might not deserve all that love or even did not want it.

The author lies unconscious beside his wife's grave, realizing that all the love he had for her was in vain because she had cheated on him.
