The English colonies had three distinct forms of government. There was a self-governing system, Proprietary Colonies which were owned by the king, and those colonies owned by individuals (Dukes) called Royal colonies.

1) Plantation Colony

This colony grows cash crops and are mostly located in the South.

2) Trading Post Colony

Most were established by the French and they would sell ferns. This colony was almost like a supermarket.

3) Settler Colony

A town where the English settled because they planned on living in the Americas for good.
