Merriam Webster dictionary defines empathy as the action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to and experiencing the thoughts of another.  Therefore, your answer would be B, to empathize with a monster means to see traits of oneself in the monster, to understand his beaviour, to put yourself in his shoes.
