The current constitution was adapted from February 15, 1876. Because Texas, (previously as part of Mexico and then an independent state) joined the Union in 1845, they had to take certain examples and model their constitution with that of the US constitution.

Moreover, Texas constitution is the 2nd longest state constitution in USA and is very detailed regarding the powers, responsibilities and rights.
