In the Al-Andalus, which was the name given to the parts of the Iberian Peninsula that were under muslim control in the Middle Ages, there was a great degree of religious tolerance.
While the rulers were muslim themselves, there were many christians and jews living in Al-Andalus, an in important cities like Cordova and Toledo. The religious conflict were with the Christians who lived outside of muslim rule: in the Christian kingdoms of Northern Spain.
