Answer: One way is the discovering of new resources. New resources can be vital for survival economically. For example, the England colonies needed cash crops. These cash crops were tobacco and cotton. This allowed them to not only trade with the natives, but sell their goods to neighboring colonies or countries for money. The second way was the spread of religion. Some colonists set out to change the native's religion. This would gain more power for the creator of the religion and allow for their beliefs to more quickly spread.
