The most common is the development
of sickle cell anemia. This is as a result of a mutation in the hemoglobin gene that affects the beta polypeptide chain of the
protein. This reduces HB’s affinity to
oxygen. Other problems include Thalassaemia,
Porphyria, and Carbon Monoxide Poisoning.
