Answer:

Jacques Cartier was a french explorer who is considered to be the discoverer of Canada. He was born in village of Saint-Malo in duchy of Brittney. He came from a family of Mariners. He went on three voyages, First Voyage (1534), Second Voyage (1535-1536), Third voyage(1541-1542). He set sail to discover Asia in 1534 but instead of Asia he reached Newfoundland, there he received furs from the Micmac Indians. He also got to know about a river(St. Lawrence river) which was in the east, he thought the river to be a passage to Asia. Instead of sailing the Saint Lawrence river, he entered in the Bay of Gaspe and landed in Quebec. There he planted 30-foot cross to mark and claim the territory for France.
