Question 5(Multiple Choice Worth 3 points) (02.01 MC) Wegener's theory of continental drift was formulated at a time when eviden
Sergio039 [100]

The correct answer is - Seafloor spreading at the mid-ocean ridge provides the mechanism for tectonic plate movement.

Harry Hess is one of the people that is most important when it comes to the proving and world wide acceptance of the continental drift theory.

Hess was very interested in the topic, and he was constantly looking for clues that would bring light to it and finally have a definite proof of it. While sailing through the Atlantic and doing some examinations, Hess noticed that there high mountains in the water, having flat peaks, and being arranged in an interesting manner. These underwater mountains, named guyouts, were the highest at a certain point, and than on both sides, as the distance was increasing they were becoming smaller and smaller.

What Hess stumbled upon was the seafloor spreading and how it works, and he recognized that quickly. He immediately went on to share what he discovered, that there's magma coming from bellow, solidifying and spreading, thus creating new crust while pushing the old crust away from the center, which is the reason why the continents are moving.

What is likely to happen in the long term if the Earth continues to absorb more energy than it emits? A. The Earth will disconti
zvonat [6]

Answer: C. The overall temperature of the Earth will increase.

Explanation:

Let's begin by explaining that Earth has a layer, the atmosphere, that is almost transparent to solar radiation, which is composed mainly of shortwave radiation (ultraviolet (UV) and visible light). Then, this layer allows to pass most of the sunlight (visible light and a small part of the UV radiation), without being absorbed.

When this radiation reaches the Earth, it is absorbed by the water (H_{2}O), soil, plants, animals; well, everything that inhabits and also the buildings. Once this absorption process ends, the light turns into long wave (IR) radiation, generating heat that is then released into outer space and known as albedo.

However, due to climate change (caused by the humankind), the Earth now tends to absorb more energy than it emits to the space as IR radiation. If this process is mantained for a long term, the planet's global temperature will highly increase.

4. Calculate If a plate moves at a rate of
Serga [27]

Answer:

2000 Kilometers.

Explanation:

We multiply how much the plate moves per year (10cm) by how many years the plate has been moving.

10 × 20000000 = 200000000

Then we convert the centimeters to kilometers

200000000 ÷ 100000 = 2000

Hope this helped friend.
