Dr. Rush practiced humoral theory and treated his patients with yellow fever by making them bleed or vomit (or draining fluids)

Many French doctors criticized him for his treatments and said he was not going to succeed.

At first, Rush made patients bleed less, but he then changed his treatment and made patients bleed and vomit more than before.
