The Battle of Mogadishu was a battle fought between forces of the United States (along UNOSOM II) and Somali soldiers who were loyal to Mohamed Farrah Aidid. This began after the American troops launched a raid in Mogadishu. These forces wanted to capture key Somali fighters. However, the American helicopters were shot down and hundreds of Somali people died. About 18 Americans and two UN soldiers died as well. The operation was seen as a failure of the American government.
