“The killing of up to 1.5 million people in the Armenian Genocide was mostly the result of Turkish nationalism, and it had littl
e to do with the First World War.” You are developing in this post an argument for or against the boldfaced statement above.
Questions to consider:
Do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Why or why not? What evidence can you provide to support your view?
What evidence can you find that might support the opposing argument?
In general I agree with the statement. The reason for that is that the Armenian genocide was done because of nationalism, and the intolerance of the Turkish toward people with different ethnicity and religion. This can easily be backed up with the actions of the Turkish government, as they were forcing the people of different ethnic groups to declare themselves as Turkish, and also to convert into Islam, with the purpose being a creation of a nation with only one ethnic group and only one religion. The Armenians opposed this policy, and they were not willing to give up on their ethnicity and religion, which angered the Turkish officials and they ordered a systematic genocide of the Armenians using several different methods.
