In 1763, at the end of the French and Indian War, the British issued a proclamation,mainly intended to conciliate the Indians by checking the encroachment of settlers on their lands. In the centuries since the proclamation, it has become one of the cornerstones of Native American law in the United States and Canada.

The Proclamation of 1763 was issued by King George II after the Treaty of Paris that puts an end to the French Indian War and the Seven Years´ War.

The Crown was having difficulties to manage the colonies over seas so to maintain the American colonist in the same places and could still afford the administration of the colonies forbade all settlement west of the Apalachian Mountains upto the Mississippi River.
