(1) The Great Salt Lake in Utah is the largest lake west of the Mississippi River. (2) The Great Salt Lake is made of salt water

. (3) This lake is unlike most other lakes. (4) The lake is salty because rivers bring in water mixed with salt. (5) When the water enters the lake, most of it evaporates and the salt is left behind. (6) The lake's high salt content makes sinking almost impossible, and many visitors enjoy floating in the water. (7) The salt content makes it difficult for fish to live in the water, but certain types of flies live there. José decided to revise the paragraph by combining sentences 2 and 3 in this way: The Great Salt Lake, unlike most other lakes, is made of salt water.
Did José combine the sentences appropriately for this paragraph?

A) yes, because one longer sentence looks better than two short sentences.
B) yes, because the new sentence shows the link between the ideas.
C) no, because the paragraph should have more sentences.
D) no, because the two sentences are not related.

What does the reported use of the words "dead men don't bite" in these lines suggest about the character Billy?
Marysya12 [62]
The line itself is saying that killing someone will make sure they can't hurt you, since dead men don't bite. That makes Billy's character seem like he led a rough life which is what I would answer with. He is not jovial, because that means cheerful, and the line doesn't give indication that all of Billy's friends are dead or that he doesn't like to think of the future, so I'd say answer A.

what is the preposition of this sentence: the incas kept records of their possessions with special knotted cords called quipu.
andrey2020 [161]
The preposition of the sentence would be the word "of" since it relates the subject, the Incas, to the clause, which is "possessions with special knotted cords called quipu."

What was the Transcendentalists' general attitude toward problems in society, such as slavery?
Debora [2.8K]
Transcendentalism was a philosophical movement that held its ground in America for a good half a century. As the believers of this movement were against organised religion and believed that knowledge can be gained with the power of contemplating about the spirit and soul. The transcendentalists were against all kinds of social evils and unjust attitudes that prevailed in the American society at that time. Similarly the problem of slavery and woman emancipation for example greatly irked them. Because transcendentalism found its place only in literature and became a literary movement, the followers of this movement could not really solve the problems but they did voice them in their work, hoping it will open people's eyes.
