The Chartes Cathedral is one of the worlds most famous path. The labyrinth symbolizes wholeness. Therefore symbolizing the Chartes Cathedral as a spiritually wholesome path.
I believe that it was important for artists to create such realistic interpretations in order for them to relate to the audience. People will react more favorably to art they can relate to somehow, art that engages their thoughts and imagination, and art that makes them feel certain emotions when presented with it.
I do believe the role of the artists has changed considerably. In the past, the artist used to create art for him/herself, and express what they were feeling at the time. Now I think artists try to create art for their audience, creating something they think the audience will like, and not take into consideration their own feelings and thoughts.
