Explanation:

An endothermic reaction is that reaction that involves the absorption or use of energy in order to occur. That is, endothermic reactions are energy-consuming. On the contrary, an exothermic reaction releases energy into the surrounding environment.

Breaking a chemical bond requires energy, hence, it is an endothermic process while forming a bond releases energy, hence, an exothermic process. Since a chemical reaction involves breaking and forming bonds, the reaction is overally termed endothermic or exothermic depending on whether more energy is used or released respectively.

In this question, a substance is broken down into its atomic particles when it dissolves in water. In order to break this substance down into atom, the bonds holding each molecule must be broken, hence, energy will be utilized making this an ENDOTHERMIC REACTION.
