During the industrial revolution both in the United States and in Europe the factories were controlled by factor owners who carried out orders through mill masters or foreman who were in charge of the factories day to day functioning. The workers in the factories faced very difficult working conditions that were dangerous and require incredibly long days of work. Therefore, the average factory worker had little power in the structure of authority and were forced to meet the demands of their superiors or face the potential loss of earnings and livelihood.
