For example, the Federalist party was formed due to the issue of the ratification of the Constitution, while the Free Soil party was formed as a way to oppose the expansion of slavery in the West. Each political party has represented different needs of the population. This is what colonists wanted from Great Britain prior to the Revolution. Before the war, Americans could not have different opinions in politics, or hope that their views were represented in the political arena.
