In World War II, the military was full of discrimination against Hispanics. 1940 people of Mexican descent in the US were twice as likely to have been born and raised in the states than not. World war I was when the Latino community played a significant role in the military but in world war II there was an increasing number of Latinos in the military .Latinos were among the first soldiers who saw combat.  After the pearl harbor bombing, the united states sought out to help defend the Philippines the units that were sent had a lot of Hispanic officers and enlisted men. These men were selected for their Spanish-speaking abilities.  At the start of World War II (1939-1945), approximately 2,690,000 Americans of Mexican descent lived in the United States.
