This was when he had to make a choice whether to cross either Scylla or Charybdis.  It was tough decision but he chose Scylla because he would still be able to pass through the straits.  If he passes through Charybdis, his ship and everyone in it would be destroyed.  It should leadership because only a true leader would make the hard choices and stay with it as he did.
