Explanation
In 1763 there was an issue of the Royal Proclamation by King George 111 following the acquisition of French territory. Canada was by then under British rule at the beginning of 1763 Treaty of Paris. It is during this time which the New France that was including the Canada colony , formally became part of the British Empire.

As you increase in elevation, there is less air above you thus the pressure decreases. As the pressure decreases, air molecules spread out further (i.e. air expands) and the temperature decreases.
