At the time that The Declaration of Independence was Written, the phrase “all men are created equal” refers to white men. At the time, black men and women did not have rights.

Before this conflict, the Native American tribes, via a series of treaties, had given the American Settlers most of Southern Indiana. The treaty of Fort Wayne signed in 1809 was the last straw for Tecumseh. He was a major political leader amongst the Native American's who lived in the area. Tensions rose between the two parties until the war started in August 1810.</span>
