IN ORDER TO PREDICT THE AGES AND HISTORY OF GEOLOGICAL SPECIMENS SCIENTIST USE BOTH RELATIVE AND ABSOLUTE METHODS OF DATING.

Explanation:

Our planet inherited large number of ARTIFACTS AND MONUMENTS  that are unearthed from older historic civilizations, to determine their ages and history relative dating and absolute dating methods are used. Although both dating dating methods are used to determine age and history the results produced by the two methods are different. Absolute dating also called numerical dating determines age and the relative dating presents in geological order formation.

For scientists when they find ruins of once civilization or layers of fossils or rocks. By looking at these using relative dating method they determine how younger/older is a particular object with respect to other and also this method is qualitative and effective in terms of radio active isotope or radio carbon dating. Absolute dating is time consuming compared to relative dating, it is quantitative. Absolute dating is better for igneous and metamorphic rocks.
