In my opinion, the first amendment is the most important constitutional amendment. It is the amendment that gives us our freedoms, in religion/belief system, speech, assembly, press, and petition. The first English colony in Jamestown Virginia (1607) was founded because the English people were trying to escape religious persecution. English is the language that most Americans use today and proves to be a unifying force to our country. Thus, the original reason of the English for setting up colonies here can be argued to be freedom, which the 1st amendment was made to protect.
