It is a matter of region and dialect (and a verb conjugation). The best way to explain it is to consider the difference of American English and Brittish English. American English comes from Brittish English, (due to colonization of North America by the Brittish), yet over time it has changed and developed as it has mixed with other cultures. This is the same for Spain Spanish and LA Spanish. Latin American Spanish came from the Spain's colonization of central and south Amercia. Hence, it is the same language, but it has now mixed with Indian and other regional dialects to create a same-but-different language.
