According to the article, "Fundamental Concepts of Political Geography: An Introduction" describes two defining concepts of political geography which are territory and territoriality.

Territory is defined by Kevin R. Cox, the author, as, "spaces  that are defended, contested, claimed against the claims of others".

Territoriality is defined by Cox as, "the  activity of defending, controlling, excluding, or including a territory".
