Answer:

I had gone to the oldest market in the city. As I was shopping, I ran into a childhood friend. She told me that she had arrived in Delhi in the morning and had checked into a nearby hotel.

The street was noisy so we entered a snack shop. All the noise immediately died down. The shop was small and the furniture was worn out. The commentator on the small television on the wall was saying that the India-Australia match in Brisbane had been called off due to bad weather. My friend wanted to order an aerated drink, but I wanted coconut water. The doctor had asked me to cut down on my sugar intake. We exchanged phone numbers and addresses, and I told my friend that if she needed any help she could count on me.

We stepped out onto the noisy street again. Some political-party workers were trying to hand out party leaflets. My poor friend who came from a small town said, 'I want to get away from this place as fast as I can.' I smiled because I'm a city girl used to crowds and noise.
